Negotiations Ongoing for Neom Advanced SWRO Desalination Plant

Negotiations are ongoing for the joint development agreement (JDA) supporting the development of an advanced seawater reverse osmosis (RO) desalination plant in Neom, Saudi Arabia's $500bn development project.

In June, Neom’s energy, water and hydrogen subsidiary, Enowa, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japan-headquartered Itochu and France’s Veolia to develop a desalination plant powered by renewable energy in Oxygen, the development’s industrial cluster.

The proposed plant has a design capacity of 500,000 cubic meters a day and is expected to produce early water in 2024.

It is expected to meet about 30 percent of Neom’s projected total water demand once complete.
