Tata Power Partners with SSMI for Captive Solar Plant in Maharashtra

Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL) through its subsidiary TP Alpha has signed a power delivery agreement (PDA) with Sanyo Special Steel Manufacturing India (SSMI). Under the PDA agreement, TPREL will establish a 28.125 MW AC (39.375 MWp) captive solar plant in Maharashtra.

The solar plant, which will come up at Aachegaon in Solapur district, is expected to produce an annual electricity of 61.875 million units to fulfil the energy demand of SSMI’s steel manufacturing unit. The total capacity of the Aachegaon facility is 120 MWp AC.

On completion, the use of solar energy from this plant would assist in reducing SSMI’s carbon footprint by approx. 42,534 tonne annually. The project is likely to be commissioned by March 2024.

This solar project aligns with SSMI’s long-term strategy to minimize dependency on fossil fuel-based energy and manufacture green steel.
