Assam gives Nod to Rs 5,197cr Project for Power Sector Modernization

On 24 September, 2023, the Assam government gave the green nod to a Rs 5,197-crore project towards modernization of the power distribution system across the state.

To initiate this, the detailed project report (DPR) has also been approved by the Cabinet in its meeting chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The total DPR cost is estimated to be Rs 5,196.91 crore.

The project, which includes system augmentation works as well, will be implemented under the revamped distribution sector scheme (RDSS). The project is expected to be completed by 31 March, 2026 and will help to serve approx. 67 lakh electrical consumers across the state.

Further, it has also been decided that a power purchase agreement (PPA) would be executed for 100 MW at rates offered by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), as this would enable the state government to procure green power from renewable sources.
