Iraq begins Implementing Project Contracts with Total

The Undersecretary for Extraction Affairs confirmed that the Ministry has begun its operations to implement strategic project contracts with the French company Total and Qatar Energy Company. This came during his chairmanship of the meeting of the joint committee to implement the four projects included in the contract signed with the company.

 

The Undersecretary for Extraction Affairs, Mr. Bassem Muhammad Khudair, said that the four projects are considered important strategic projects and will provide support to the national economy through developing oil fields and reservoirs, investing in gas, and securing water for reservoir uses, as well as a project to produce electrical energy through the use of solar energy at a rate of 1000 megawatts, which is a project implemented for the first time in Iraq.

 

Mr. Al-Wakeel added that the contracting company received the work to implement the projects and the development plan was discussed with the company, which includes developing the Artawi field so that its production capacity reaches 210 thousand barrels, and the second project is to process gas in 6 oil fields (Artawi, Majnoon, West Qurna 2, Al-Sabbah, Al-Lahis, and Al-Touba), in addition to the seawater project, which is one of the important projects that will be addressed to support the reservoir pressure in the oil fields, indicating that this will provide large quantities of suitable water for agricultural industrial projects in addition to the project to transition to alternative energy.

 

Mr. Al-Wakeel indicated that these projects will open the door wide for the Iraqi private sector to participate in the work, in addition to providing great job opportunities for the workforce in the province.

 

The Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa for the French company Total, Julien Pouget, said that his company is proud of this contract and highly appreciates the continued support from the Ministry to facilitate work procedures in the four projects that were included in the contract signed with the Ministry of Oil. It is a project to develop the Artawi field and raise its production rates.

 

The project to reduce gas emissions and invest associated gas in oil fields and the seawater project, and the project to produce electrical energy through conversion to new energy and the production of 1000 megawatts of solar energy. Bougie stressed the importance of these contracts and their positive effects on the oil and gas industry in Iraq.
