PDO Awards 3-Year Drilling Contract to Weatherford

Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has awarded a three-year integrated drilling services contract to Weatherford covering the drilling of 274 wells in the Marmul and Greater Saqar areas of Oman.

The contract forms part of PDO’s plans to increase oil production, improve drilling efficiency and optimize the development of small fields through a unified development model.

Under the contract, Weatherford will drill oil production wells and water injection wells across the targeted areas. The work will be implemented through a phased drilling programme designed to improve execution efficiency and enable more accurate planning and allocation of drilling rigs, equipment and resources.

PDO expects the integrated contracting model to deliver approximately 20% cost savings compared with conventional pricing models, while providing greater control over project costs and clearer accountability for execution and results.

Dr. Aflah Said Al Hadhrami, Director General of Petroleum Development Oman, said the company’s ability to grow production efficiently and responsibly is essential to maximizing the value of Oman’s hydrocarbon resources.

He added that the agreement represents a further step toward achieving production growth as a key pillar of PDO’s institutional transformation journey.

PDO also emphasized its commitment to increasing in-country value, developing local capabilities, investing in Omani talent and retaining a greater share of economic value within Oman.
