Iraq’s MoO Advances Four Gas Capture Projects with 1.4 bcf/d Capacity

Iraq’ Ministry of Oil is implementing four associated gas capture and utilization projects with a combined capacity of 1.4 billion cubic feet per day (bcf/d) as part of plans to end gas flaring by the end of 2029, said the ministry spokesperson Salim Al-Rikabi.

Among the key projects are the Artawi project, which has a capacity of 600 million cubic feet per day (mmcf/d) to be developed in two phases; the Bin Omar project with a capacity of 300 mmcf/d; the Nasiriyah project with 200 mmcf/d; and the Halfaya project with 300 mmcf/d.

The ministry is also working to develop free gas resources from the Akkaz and Mansuriya fields as part of plans to increase national gas production and utilize the resource for power generation, industrial activities, and other uses.

In the refining sector, the ministry is implementing several expansion and development projects to increase refining capacity, improve the quality of petroleum products and meet domestic market demand, said Al-Rikabi.

One of the key projects is the Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) in Basra, which is expected to supply the local market with nearly 5 million liters of high-octane gasoline and 10 million liters of gas oil.

The ministry also plans to expand the Diwaniyah, Maysan, and Najaf refineries, which will strengthen Iraq’s refining capabilities and increase domestic production of petroleum products.
