SEC Awards Supply of Synchronous Condensers System across Saudi Arabia

Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) awards Supply of Synchronous Condensers System Project across Saudi Arabia.

Synchronous Condenser Systems provide a highly reliable and efficient solution to address reactive compensation and voltage support requirements, providing transmission operators an optimized solution for cost, performance and operational flexibility.

The Project was awarded to GE Vernova.

As part of the project, the company will supply Synchronous Condensers for the following renewable energy projects:

§  Bisha PV in Aseer Region, with a solar PV capacity of 3,000 MW.
§  Humaij PV in Madinah Region, with a solar PV capacity of 3,000 MW
§  Najran PV in Southern Region, with a solar PV capacity of 1,400 MW
§  Sadawi PV in Eastern Region, with a solar PV capacity of 2,000 MW
§  Haden 2 PV in Western Region.
§  Mowaih 2 PV in Western Region.
§  Al Qirah Wind in Central Region.
§  Starah Wind in Riyadh Region, with a capacity of 2,000 MW.
§  Dawadmi Wind in Central province with a capacity of 1,500 MW.

The EPC contract related to SEC-Western Operating Area was awarded to Elsewedy Electric Power Systems Projects (Elsewedy Electric PSP).

Earlier, during June 2025 Elsewedy Electric PSP and GE Vernova signed the first Synchronous Condenser Plants Project in Saudi Arabia.
