BluPine Energy Inks PPA with SECI for 150 MW Storage Project in Bikaner

BluPine Energy has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 150 MW solar power project integrated with an energy storage system (ESS) in Bikaner, Rajasthan.

The agreement is part of SECI’s larger initiative to procure 2,000 MW of power from Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected solar power projects, integrated with 1,000 MW/4,000 MWh of energy storage capacity. The Bikaner project is aligned with India’s national target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil-based installed energy capacity by 2030.

As India continues to scale up its renewable energy portfolio, energy storage has emerged as a crucial component to address the inherent intermittency of solar and wind power. The Ministry of Power has mandated the integration of energy storage from February 2025, in an effort to ensure grid stability and efficiency during peak demand hours.

BluPine Energy secured the project through its Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), Solarcraft, during SECI’s competitive bidding process held in July 2024. The initiative by SECI to couple large-scale renewable projects with storage underscores the government’s commitment to a cleaner, more reliable, and technologically advanced energy infrastructure.
