NMC, SusBDe Ink MoU for Waste-To-Energy and Compost Project

Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with The Netherlands’ Sustainable Business Development (SusBDe) company. This will make Nagpur as the first city in the country to produce 27 mcm of compound biogas every year.

The Rs 300 crore plant will process 1,200 tonne of municipal solid waste and convert it into high-quality compost, compressed biomass (CBG), and recyclables daily. The development will be on 30 acres of land allocated for the plant at Bhandewadi.

The company will undertake the project through a local partner and the solid waste will be processed using the latest global technology. It is expected to significantly reduce the emission of toxic gases in the environment. NMC and the company will hold equal share in the carbon credit after processing the waste.

The agreement has been prepared for 15 years , and there will be a performance review every five years, and further on, it can be extended to 30 years.
