Tata Power Aims 10-GW Renewables Portfolio in Rajasthan in 5 Years

India’s Tata Power Co Ltd together with its fully-owned subsidiary Tata Power Solar, plans to expand its activities in the Indian state of Rajasthan, the company said.

The plans, outlined at the Invest Rajasthan summit in Jaipur, include developing up to 8,000 MW of utility-scale projects, 1,000 MW of solar rooftop, and installing 150,000 solar pumps over the next five years.

Tata Power’s renewable business has so far commissioned 2,066 MW in Rajasthan and has around 2,873 MW of solar projects under construction in the state. The utility aims to create a renewable power portfolio of 10,000 MW there in the next five years.

“Both in terms of potential and what has been done so far, Rajasthan has today emerged as a role model to produce green energy through solar power,” said Tata Power chief executive and managing director Praveer Sinha. “We will continue to build on all three businesses – EPC [engineering, procurement and construction], Solar Pump and Solar Rooftop, to the benefit of farmers, industries and common citizens of this frontier state,” Sinha also said.
