Qatar’s UCC Holding Offers to Build LNG Regasification Unit in Egypt

Qatar’s UCC Holding is among the three companies planning to build Egypt’s first onshore liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification unit, according to a new report.

The UCC unit proposal includes a regasification unit and a floating storage unit with a capacity of 200,000 cubic metres, said a government official.

Turkey’s BGN has offered to construct a regasification terminal with a capacity of one billion cubic feet per day, with the potential to increase to two billion cubic feet per day, the report said. The proposal includes building floating storage units ranging from 170,000 to 290,000 cubic metres.

The third proposal was submitted by an Egyptian company, the report said.

Cairo aims to increase its natural gas production to about 6.6 billion cubic feet per day by 2030, compared to a current average of about 3.8 billion cubic feet.
