SAFEEN Drydocks Awarded AED 1.3bn Vessel Construction Contracts

SAFEEN Drydocks, a leading shipbuilding, repair and maintenance company and a joint venture between AD Ports Group and Premier Marine Engineering Services, has secured major vessel construction contracts valued at AED 1.3 billion (USD 354 million), marking the largest project awards in the company’s history.

The contracts were awarded by AD Ports Group and Oilbank Logistics Services Ltd of Nigeria for the design, construction and delivery of a total of 22 vessels, reinforcing SAFEEN Drydocks’ position as a leading shipbuilder in the region and highlighting the UAE’s growing role as a global maritime manufacturing hub.

Under the first contract, SAFEEN Drydocks will undertake the design and fabrication of four 140-meter multipurpose vessels for AD Ports Group. The vessels will support a wide range of cargo and logistics operations and will feature capacity for 105 passengers, up to 300 containers, more than 100 reefer plugs, high and heavy cargo, as well as up to 1,000 vehicles and 100 trailers per vessel.

The second contract involves the construction of 18 specialized marine support units for Nigeria-based Oilbank Logistics Services Ltd. The fleet will comprise tugboats and pilot boats of various sizes to support port operations, marine transportation and offshore logistics activities across Nigeria.

The combined AED 1.3 billion projects represent one of the largest vessel construction programs currently being executed in the Middle East and Africa. The awards further strengthen SAFEEN Drydocks’ expanding order book and demonstrate its capability to deliver complex shipbuilding projects for both domestic and international clients.

The vessels will be built utilizing SAFEEN Drydocks’ advanced shipbuilding facilities in the UAE and Spain, including its shipyard at Khalifa Port and the recently acquired Balenciaga Shipyard. The projects will leverage the company’s expertise in engineering, modular construction, precision fabrication and vessel integration.

Captain Ammar Al Shaiba, CEO – Maritime & Shipping Cluster at AD Ports Group, said the awards demonstrate SAFEEN Drydocks’ ability to execute complex vessel construction programs across multiple vessel classes while supporting the UAE’s industrial growth and maritime ambitions.

The latest awards are expected to contribute significantly to the development of local shipbuilding capabilities, support supply chain localization, and further position the UAE as a regional center for advanced maritime manufacturing and vessel construction.

SAFEEN Drydocks continues to expand its footprint in the global shipbuilding market, with these landmark awards underscoring its growing capability to deliver large-scale maritime infrastructure and vessel construction projects for international customers.
