Rajasthan Launches Rs 225-Cr Chambal Dams Modernization Under DRIP-II

The Rajasthan government has embarked on the Rs 225 crore upgrade of key Chambal River dams under Phase II of the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP-II).

The modernization will focus on the rehabilitation of the Rana Pratap Sagar Dam, Jawahar Sagar Dam, and Kota Barrage, with tenders already issued for the works. This initiative is set to enhance water management, improve irrigation efficiency, and boost power generation in the Hadoti region.

The project involves replacing 17 vertical crest gates, sluice gates, stop log gates, and gantry cranes, along with repairing the ski-jump bucket. These gates are designed to manage a flood discharge capacity of up to 18,408 cubic mtrs. per second (cumecs).

The Kota Barrage, built in 1960, will see the replacement of 19 radial gates, two sluice gates, and other critical components. These upgrades aim to improve flood control and operational efficiency, with ongoing work ensuring the continued supply of drinking water and irrigation to nearby districts.

The Rana Pratap Sagar Dam, a key structure for electricity generation and flood management, will undergo gate replacements and repairs without disrupting power or water supply. Similarly, the Jawahar Sagar Dam will be upgraded to maintain the river's downstream flow and support its 99 MW power generation capacity.

This large-scale upgrade underscores Rajasthan's commitment to strengthening its vital water infrastructure.
