ISPRL Moves Ahead with Crude Oil Storage Facility at Chandikhol

The Odisha government has handed over project land for the development of a major strategic crude oil storage facility at Chandikhol in Jajpur district, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s energy security infrastructure.

The district administration has executed a lease deed for approx. 400 acres in the Dankari hill region, clearing a key administrative hurdle for the project’s execution.

The facility will be developed by Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves (ISPRL) at an estimated cost of Rs 8,700 crore. It will have a planned storage capacity of 4 million tonne of crude oil, positioning it among the largest underground rock cavern storage systems globally. The project is designed to enhance India’s strategic petroleum reserves, enabling the country to maintain emergency crude oil stocks in the event of global supply disruptions.

With progress now underway, stakeholders expect strong economic gains for the region. This move is also expected to attract downstream industries to the Jajpur–Chandikhol corridor and improve the overall ease of doing business in the region.
