India’s Cairn Oil and Gas Signs 25-MW Renewables PPA with Serentica

India’s Cairn Oil and Gas will use renewable electricity to cover 20% of the power needs of its largest onshore oil production site in India under a deal with Serentica Renewables.

The oil and gas explorer and producer, part of Vedanta Group, will procure green power from a hybrid renewable plant, securing output from 25 MW of its capacity. The power purchase agreement (PPA) will back its operations in Barmer, Rajasthan, providing it with 153 million kWh of green power per year and enabling it to lower the carbon footprint of its operations by roughly 115 tonnes. The contract is also aligned with Cairn’s broader roadmap to expand renewable energy use by 2030 and support its compliance with statutory Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) mandates.

The hybrid park linked to the deal is Serentica’s Gadag solar-wind complex located in the state of Karnataka.

Backed by KKR and Twinstar Overseas, Serentica Renewables currently has 1.7 GW of installed renewable energy capacity across wind, solar and energy storage. Last month, the power producer agreed a deal with domestic yarn manufacturer Sanathan Textiles to supply it with electricity from 32 MW of its renewable power sites.
