ReNew Inaugurates 1.3 GWp Solar Power Project in Rajasthan

Renewable energy company ReNew has inaugurated a 1.3 GWp solar power project in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The facility, spanning approx. 3,500 acres across several villages in the Pokran and Bhaniyana tehsils, is the largest solar project of its kind in India to be constructed entirely with Made-in-India components.

The event was officiated by Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi in the presence of Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. The project features 100 percent made-by-ReNew solar panels, with 90 percent of them manufactured in Rajasthan at the company’s Jaipur facility. This emphasis on domestic production makes it the first project of such scale in the country aligned fully with the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The solar installation is expected to generate approx. 2,490 million units of electricity annually, enough to meet the energy needs of nearly five lakh households. It will also offset around 2.3 million tonne of CO2 emissions each year, contributing significantly to environmental sustainability. The electricity produced will be supplied at a highly competitive tariff of Rs 2.18 per kWh, underlining ReNew’s commitment to affordable clean energy access.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Minister remarked, “This marks a historic milestone for India, but especially for Rajasthan - a state that is fast becoming the heart of the nation's renewable energy revolution envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The inauguration of this nearly 1.3 GWp solar site in Jaisalmer, built entirely with Made-in-India modules - 90 per cent of them manufactured right here in Rajasthan - is a shining example of contributing to Atmanirbhar Bharat.”
