Kandla Port in Gujarat to begin Green Hydrogen Production by mid-2025

Kandla Port in Gujarat is set to become India’s first port to operate a green hydrogen plant using indigenous electrolyzers.

Scheduled for mid-2025, the plant will produce approx. 18 kg of green hydrogen per hour, translating to 80-90 tonne annually. This initiative aligns with India’s clean energy goals, supporting fuel cell applications and future green ammonia integration.

A one-MW electrolyzer, developed by L&T, has been designated for the project, with plans to expand capacity to 10 MW. “The Green Hydrogen Plant is targeted to be fully operational by July 2025,” stated an official release. Site preparations at Kandla have been completed, and electrolyzers will soon be assembled to initiate operations.

The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), overseeing the project, also plans to integrate Green Ammonia production into the facility. This initiative supports the port’s vision of self-sustaining, eco-friendly power solutions, reinforcing India’s transition to renewable energy.
