L&T Plans to Invest Rs 48,000cr in Six Green Ammonia Units

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) plans to invest up to Rs 48,000 crore over a decade to establish six green ammonia manufacturing units at Deendayal Port, Kandla, Gujarat. Each facility, with a capacity of 300 KTPA, will cost approx. Rs 8,000 crore and be developed in six phases.

Green ammonia, a crucial element for industrial decarbonization, is produced using water electrolysis powered by renewable energy. It is in discussion with multiple global offtakers to manufacture and export green ammonia overseas.

L&T acquired 500 acres at Kandla Port last year, intending to make it a green ammonia export hub. The company has started the front-end engineering design (FEED) for the facility and is pursuing green power supply approvals. It has partnered with McPhy Energy of France to manufacture alkaline-based electrolyzers.
