NTPC Aims to Develop 30 GW of Nuclear Power in Next 20 Years

NTPC aims to develop 30 GW of nuclear power over the next two decades, which is three times its initial target, following the government's move to open the sector to foreign and private investment.

The project, estimated at USD 62 billion, requires extensive land acquisition. The identified sites hold potential for "large capacity addition". NTPC's newly created unit NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam is likely to make investments in the sector, including through partnerships.

The power giant is constructing two 2.6 GW nuclear plants in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and seeking approvals for land in eight states, including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, despite past challenges.
