Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, along with officials from Nepal and Bangladesh, inaugurated the first trilateral power flow transaction from Nepal to Bangladesh.
The virtual event, hosted by Nepal's Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, marked the hydroelectric power flow from Nepal to Bangladesh, facilitated through the Indian electricity grid.
The power transaction is a result of an agreement signed between Nepal and Bangladesh in June 2023 during a visit by Nepal’s Prime Minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, to India. The agreement, known as the Regional Cooperation for Power Purchase, Sale, Distribution, and Transmission, mandates Nepal to export 40 MW of hydro power to Bangladesh, leveraging India's transmission infrastructure.
The Minister emphasized that the initiative benefits all three countries - Nepal, Bangladesh, and India, by strengthening regional cooperation in power distribution and transmission, while also contributing to sustainable growth in the region.
