Ministry Accords EC to 660 MW Coal-Based Supercritical Sagardighi TPP

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) has accorded environment clearance (EC) to the proposed one x 660 MW coal-based supercritical Sagardighi Thermal Power project, expansion of Phase-III, unit-5.

 

The proposed expansion project will be set up within the existing premises of two x 300 MW and two x 500 MW power plants at Manigram, Chandpara, Kanchanpara, Harirampur village in Murshidabad district of West Bengal.

 

Earlier terms of reference (ToR) was issued by the Ministry for setting up the proposed one x 500 MW (unit-5) power project on 15 January 2015. However, the ToR was amended to one x 660 MW on 11 July 2016. Subsequently, ToR validity expired and fresh ToR was issued again on 26 March 2019.

 

The company has overall area of about 705.36 ha. The main plants for Phase-I, Phase-II and Phase-III expansion unit are located within a common boundary covering an overall area of about 365 ha.

 

Coal consumption for one x 660 MW (Phase-III) is estimated to be around 453 TPH in TMCR condition and 497 TPH in BMCR running condition.

 

The coal linkage for the proposed project has been issued by MoC vide letter dated 6 June 2018 from Deocha Pachami Coal Mine, West Bengal.

 

The estimated capital cost of the project is Rs 4,402 core. Around 200 O&M personnel will be required during operation phase of the project and around 200 permanent staff will be engaged in construction activities.
