The Bhadradri Thermal Power Station (BTPS) project has moved a step closer towards commissioning as the boiler of the first unit of 4×270 MW (1,080 MW) was lighted up on 25 March 2019.

The lighting up of the boiler has been done as per schedule. The process for the remaining unit will be done in the coming months with an aim to commission all the four units by the end of December 2019.

The construction of the thermal power project was taken up on the full scale from March 2017 near Ramanujavaram village of Manuguru mandal in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district of Telangana. The cost of the project is Rs 7,857 crore.

Once fully commissioned, the 1,080 MW project will meet initial requirement of energy by Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP) which is planned to begin pumping water in coming monsoon.

This is the second power project taken up after formation of Telangana state in 2014. The foundation stone for the project was laid on 28 March 2015.
