Abengoa Completes Construction of CSP Project at MBR Solar Park

Spain’s Abengoa has completed the construction of three 200 MW concentrated solar power (CSP) solar fields in Dubai at the Mohammed bin Rashid (MBR) solar park in Dubai.

The project involved the installation of 6,360 collectors for the three parabolic trough plants, which involved the assembly of more than 160,000 tonnes of structures.

Abengoa was responsible for providing the technology, design, engineering and construction of the parabolic trough plants for Shanghai Electric Group – the main EPC contractor for the 4th phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid park. Shanghai Electric is developing a molten salt central receiver technology tower plant, which will have a thermal storage capacity of 13.5 hours.

The fourth phase of Dubai’s MBR park is being developed by a consortium led by Saudi Arabia’s Acwa Power and China’s Silk Road Fund. State utility Dewa is also an equity partner in the special purpose vehicle (SPV), Noor Energy 1, set up to develop and own and operate the plant.
