Dewa Seeks Consultants for Green Hydrogen Study

Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa) is to invite consultancy firms to submit bids for the contract to develop a green hydrogen strategy for Dubai.

Formulating a green hydrogen strategy is part of Dubai’s target to transform to a carbon-neutral economy by 2050. Green hydrogen will play a central part in meeting key objectives such as developing a green mobility sector, reducing carbon emissions from industries, as well as generating electricity and thermal energy.

In May this year, Germany’s Siemens Energy, in collaboration with Dewa, commissioned the first industrial scale solar-powered green hydrogen facility in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region.

The pilot project is located at Dewa’s outdoor testing facility of the Research and Development (R&D) Centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid (MBR) solar park in Dubai.

The facility contains electrolysis, storage and re-electrification capabilities. Daylight solar power from the MBR park will allow the plant to produce 20.5 kg/hr of hydrogen at 1.25 MW of peak power.
