India: Centre Working on Scheme Worth Rs 20,000 cr to Solarise Agricultural Feeders

The Centre is planning to set aside Rs 20,000 crore under a new scheme to solarise agricultural feeders. The move will be a big push for adoption of solar energy in the Indian agri-economy.

The cost of solarisation will be met by agricultural subsidy by states. Moreover, for the solarisation of the entire agricultural sector, 110 GWs of capacity will have to be installed.

Apart from this, the government is setting up 10 GW renewable energy park in Ladakh and the power evacuation survey for the project has been completed.

The construction activity for the project will begin by the end of 2021. The power will also be exported from the project, which would increase the revenues of the region.
