Engie Starts Work to Develop a 400 MW Solar Plant in Gujarat

Low-carbon energy solutions provider Engie has started work to construct a 400 MW solar project in Gujarat. The project has been awarded by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam (GUVNL) in the 750 MW GUVNL Phase (XVI) auction process.

The solar project, with an estimated investment of around USD 200 million, would generate 907 GWh of electricity to the release 774,112 tonne of carbon emissions annually. In its construction phase, the project is set to be operational by the second quarter of 2024.

The company secured its position as the preferred bidder through a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) signed with GUVNL. The project reinforces ENGIE's commitment to expanding its renewable energy portfolio. Once completed, it will elevate Engie's total renewable portfolio in India to 1.5 GW, spanning 18 projects across seven states. This award showcases Engie's commitment to supporting India's energy transition plan of achieving the 500 GW clean energy goals by 2030.

Furthermore, this project marks Engie's third renewable venture in the region, following the commissioning of a 200 MW solar project in Raghanesda in August 2021 and a 29.9 MW wind project in Tithva in 2019.
