India’s Renewable Energy Capacity Increases to 257 GW from 81 GW in 2014

India’s renewable energy capacity has grown from 81 GW in 2014 to 257 GW in 2025, marking a significant achievement as the country becomes the world’s fourth-largest in this sector

Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted that solar capacity surged from 2.8 GW to 128 GW, while solar module manufacturing capacity increased dramatically from 2 GW to 110 GW.

India has met its target of 50% energy capacity from non-fossil sources five years ahead of schedule, with initiatives like PM-KUSUM and PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana contributing to energy justice and empowerment.

India ranks third globally in growth in power generation capacity in the past five years, emphasizing its role in promoting solar energy, especially for developing nations through the International Solar Alliance.
