In implementation of the directives of the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs and Minister of Oil, Eng. Hayan Abdul-Ghani Al-Sawad, on the necessity of continuing field presence at work sites to follow up on the implementation of projects and plans adopted by the Ministry to develop the oil sector in line with the government program.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Extraction Affairs, Mr. Bassem Mohammed Khader, confirmed that the staff of the Basra Oil Company has achieved a distinguished achievement by rehabilitating the second pumping station by restarting the second turbine pump with national efforts in Muthanna Governorate, which contributes to supporting pumping operations in the strategic oil pipeline, and the continuity of pumping operations to receiving stations, including power generation stations and refineries, and thus the continuity of the production of petroleum derivatives and electricity, indicating that the maintenance and rehabilitation work was carried out by the national effort of the technical and engineering staff of the station, praising their creative efforts in completing the rehabilitation work at low costs when compared to foreign contracting companies.
The Undersecretary added that the tour also included a visit to the third pumping station in Najaf Governorate and a meeting with the technical and engineering staff of the station in the presence of the general managers of Basra Oil Company, North Oil Company, the technical department and a team from the ministry. During the visit, a meeting was held with a representative of the company (Rohr Pump) to discuss the issue of installing two electric pumps, noting that the installation operations will take seven months. Installing and operating these two pumps will enhance flexibility in pumping operations through the strategic line for the required quantities of oil, from the south to the center and to the north, especially to the northern refineries, in light of the progress achieved in the production capacities of the refineries.
He added that the issue of turbine pumps was discussed and the ministry will have a direct invitation to specialized international companies to qualify the pumps within the ministry’s plan and its specified timings, pointing to the exceptional support provided by the government and the ministry’s leadership in this regard, stressing that the coming months will witness a noticeable improvement in pumping operations to meet the actual local need for oil, to support the increasing production operations, and secure fuel for power generation stations and refineries. Basra Oil Company Director General Mr. Basem Abdul Karim said, in implementation of the directives of the Minister of Oil, Eng. Hayan Abdul Ghani Al-Sawad, the company carried out maintenance and rehabilitation operations for the pumping stations with national effort, stressing that the staff possesses technical and engineering expertise, in addition to other capabilities in the mechanical and technical fields, and has the capabilities to complete maintenance and rehabilitation work for parts of the station and turbines in record time to support pumping operations.
