Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL) has commissioned a five million tonne liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal in Chhara, Gujarat. The terminal, developed with a Rs 4,750-crore investment by its arm, HPLNG. The unloading operations have been completed last month.
Designed for flexibility and scalability, the facility includes marine unloading, storage, road tanker loading, and regasification capabilities, along with connections to the national gas grid. Its capacity is expandable to 10 million tonne, and a gross storage capacity of 400,000 cubic mtrs. across two tanks.
The terminal will operate under a tolling model, enabling third-party access through long-term contracts and agreements for spot cargoes. It supports India’s vision of increasing the share of natural gas in its energy mix from seven percent to 15 percent by 2030. This strategic infrastructure is poised to play a critical role in bolstering energy security and diversifying the nation’s energy sources.
