BPCL Identifies 10-Acre Land for CBG Plant in Kochi

Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) has identified 10 acres of land for setting up a compressed biogas (CBGs) plant at Brahmapuram in Kochi, Kerala. BPCL had identified the land for the project considering its proximity to the refinery project at Ambalamugal.

Kochi Corporation will formally make a decision to hand over 20 acres to BPCL Kochi Refinery. Recently, the Kerala government approved the detailed project report (DPR) for the company's 150 tpa capacity plant. The civic body may have to complete a few legal formalities before handing over the holding, which consists of reclaimed as well as dry land. A tripartite agreement between the Kochi Corporation, BPCL, and the state government will have to be signed to hand over the holding.

Besides offering land for the CBG plant, the Corporation will be responsible for providing the company with biodegradable waste. The company had sought power for setting up the plant from the state government at a subsidized rate. Further, the government has assured BPCL to decide in consultation with the Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission (KSERC).

After the fire mishap occurred on the solid waste treatment plant premises in March 2023, the company has no waste treatment plant. The Corporation is dumping the biodegradable waste on the solid waste treatment plant premises at Brahmapuram.
