Algeria can help fill Germany’s Gas Storage Facilities – Diplomat

Algeria could help fill Germany's gas storage facilities, Berlin's top diplomat said, as Europe's largest economy looks for ways to diversify its energy sources.

Cooperation between Germany and Algeria is definitely possible, Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said during a visit to Algiers, adding that the North African nation is a reliable partner.

* "We need reliable partners and resilient supply chains, especially in our immediate neighbourhood, both for securing critical raw materials and for addressing energy security," Wadephul said, without giving details on potential deals.
* In 2025, Germany's top supplier of natural gas was Norway.
* Germany is trying to diversify its gas sources after Russia stopped its deliveries in 2022, following Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
* Germany's storage sites are currently 53% full, according to Aggregated Gas Storage Inventory data, compared with more than 70% a year ago, reflecting gas traders' hesitancy to buy gas at elevated prices due to the war in Iran.
