ReNew Signs Pact with JERA for Green Ammonia Project in Odisha

ReNew Energy Global has signed an agreement with Japan’s largest power generation company, JERA to jointly evaluate the development of a green ammonia production project in the country. ReNew's subsidiary, ReNew E-Fuels, will collaborate on the project in Paradip, Odisha.

The project will utilize nearly 500 MW of high-capacity utilization factor (CUF) renewable energy for production of green hydrogen, as a key feedstock for green ammonia. It is projected to have a production capacity of nearly 1,00,000 tonne of green ammonia annually by 2030. JERA retains the right to offtake this green ammonia for Japan.

The project will leverage ReNew’s expertise in renewable energy development and solutioning, and JERA’s prowess in establishing value chains. The project, once ready, will contribute to a cleaner future and support India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission and aligns with Japan’s clean energy transition goals.

With a focus on the sustainability, affordability, India aims to produce five million tonne of green hydrogen per year by 2030, in its stride towards becoming the largest green hydrogen hub. For both companies, India represents high potential in both solar and wind power.
