The Chandigarh administration has planned to generate more than 60 MW solar energy in two years.
The Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST), the nodal agency to install solar plants in Chandigarh, has already prepared a plan which will be implemented with coordination of different departments, including electricity department, municipal corporation, education department, engineering department and prisons department.
Recently, the UT administration had decided that there will be no electrical inspection for installation of solar plants up to 250 kWP.
The administration has achieved a target of 37.5 MW as of now. To encourage people for installing solar projects, the Central government had even released Rs five crore to the administration, which is being used as solar subsidy for residents who had installed solar plants on their rooftops.
The administration had decided to use this amount for transferring subsidy amounts in the account of eligible beneficiaries.
The Central government had recently notified the new subsidy scheme for the rooftop solar units, wherein the subsidy amount has been raised from 30 percent to 40 percent for panels up to three kWp capacity.
For solar units from four kWp to 10 kWp, the subsidy will be 20 percent. There will be no subsidy for plants above 10 kWp. Earlier, 30 percent subsidy was given to all applicants irrespective of the capacity of the plant.
